Final & evaluation
For
this brief I have made a book jacket for Harry Potter and the Philosophers
Stone, and on it have included my own imagery from my photo-shoot and also an
image of my self with a small bit of information, as well as a barcode, and a
QR code that will is linked to my online blog, I have done this so that the
book, the blog and the website can all be linked together. I really liked parts
of this brief, like setting up a blog and website and seeing how other
photographers and other people in the art and design business like graphic
designers use blogs to promote them selves and there work, I also liked the
fact that we managed to learn simple things like the QR code which is simple
and easy to make and can be effective.
I like
my final idea as it is what I aimed to do, it looks like an interesting book
cover aimed more towards the adult audience, I also like how plain the front
cover is and its not crammed with pointless information and reviews. I also
like thus use of negative space and that the font used for the title is in an
easy, clear and readable san serif font. I particularly like the spine of the
book as I think have a small image of the front-page looks really interesting
and I like how the copy for the title all lines up and looks well presented.
Then on the back I think I could have done better to line everything up
perfectly as some things are a fraction out, but I like the back image and how
parts, were the copy is, are faded to make it more easy to read and I also like
the lay out from the blurb to the reviews. The few things I don’t like about
this are the inside flaps as I don’t think they look as creative as the rest of
the book and let it down a bit, but overall I am really pleased with the final
outcome of this book cover jacket.
Book build up.
This is my front cover for my book, i used one of my photos and the clone tool to get the back ground to spread across the full page and i really like the font used as it is a really friendly and easy to read san serif, and i also like the use of negative space.
The spine for the book, with the same font used on the front cover, also i like the idea of having the logo of the front cover on the spine too .
This is the back cover, and i really like how this is laid out i also like how segments have had the opacity down compared to the rest, as it makes the copy easy to read.

Book Measurements
This
is the size of the book I am doing including 0.3mm for the folds to allow
better access for the folding and for
the flaps on the book.
Midway Evaluation
At the
moment I am creating my front and back cover for my Harry Potter and the
Philosophers stone book. I am going to do a photo-shoot with the props that I
have got, which include a Harry Potter wand, as well as letters from the school,
which includes an equipment list, and a welcome letter. I am going to shoot
each object by its self then shoot things like the wand and welcoming letter
together, then the logo and wand together. The wand is something I really want
to have on the cover as I think it is a great symbol for this book as it is all
about magic and it would support it really well. I am going to take these
photos at home in my home studio as I have the equipment I need, which is
lights and a small backdrop as they are only small objects. I am going to use a
black velvet back drop as I believe that this will give the best smooth effect
that I am looking for.
Thoughts & Ideas
I want
to create a book cover that will be aimed more towards adults, so I want to
include more props like wands, logos, instead of using cartoons like on the
original child’s version of the book. I have got a few props including a wand,
a sweet wrapped from the movies, also a logo of the “House’s” as well as some
original things from the movie like the “welcome to Hogwarts letter” and
envelope addressed to Harry Potter. I also have several images of Hogwarts
castle that were taken in Florida.
